Travel Medicine Practice at AMC

  • Pre-Enrolment medical clearance (universities, colleges, boarding schools…)
  • Pre-Employment/Deployment medical clearance

Pre-Enrolment medical clearance

  • Requested by colleges, universities, and boarding schools abroad.
  • The requesting institution usually has its form to be filled out. The form has sections to be filled by the applicant and sections to be filled by the health care provider.
  • The medical usually has 3 main components, which are indicated below:
  • Medical history and physical examination - the main objective is to check for any chronic and communicable diseases, also to check for any allergies
  • Immunization history/vaccination clearance – Completion and proof of childhood vaccination, the required and recommended vaccines of adults depend on the requesting institution's preference. The most common required vaccines are MMR, Varicella, Tdap, Flu shot, adult polio, Hepatitis B, and Meningococcal (ACYW and B). Others may be recommended, such as HPV, Hepatitis A, Typhoid, and yellow fever.

*Most schools require the initial booster dose of tetanus vaccine to be Tdap (given after the age of 7) and subsequent boosters given every 10 years to be either TD or Tdap.

  • TB screening- Required for all applicants that reside in/is from WHO high TB prevalence countries. An IGRA (TB blood test) is usually required – intended to check for the presence of latent TB. If positive, a Chest X-ray is required to rule out Active TB. If the chest x-ray is unremarkable, then the application can be submitted.

*Some institutions may require the treatment of latent TB before enrolment.

*Rarely, some institutions may ask for certain laboratory test including serum Hemoglobin/CBC (to check for the presence of anemia and determine fitness for sports activity)

Note: -

  • The vaccinations we currently provide at 51±¬ÁÏÍøare Hepatitis B, MMR, TD, Tdap, MCV4, IPV, and Varicella. Other required vaccines mentioned above are usually not available in the country. In such instances, we will provide a medical certificate indicating the unavailability that is submitted along with the form. (Please be aware that the availability of these vaccines at our center is subject to change.)
  • TB IGRA test is available at our center. It is recommended to give a blood sample for the IGRA test within 24 hours of getting live vaccines like MMR or Varicella.
